The SVP, Head of Integrated Planning is a critical leadership role in the agency and within the strategy team, reporting into the Head of Strategy and Planning. The position presents the right candidate an opportunity to evolve the discipline of planning, grow a team, and lead the practice to produce creative, innovative work for Empower’s rich portfolio of clients.

They will possess client diplomacy, a collaborative leadership style, and strong communication skills with the ability to influence others and align stakeholders. They will have experience in developing and implementing progressive planning processes and approaches to suit the diverse, dynamic needs of our clients.


The right person will be fluent in all channels - with knowledge of data, platforms, as well as experience working across owned/earned media, content marketing, influencer, and experiential spaces. They will have a burning curiosity to experiment and come up with new/better ways of doing things; and a mindset of marrying creativity, data, and analytics to connect brands with people that meet their wants/needs. Deep experience working with research and analytics teams with knowledge of full media mix and digital attribution. 


They will have a history of hiring, managing, leading and mentoring high-performing teams. But they must also have a willingness to roll up their sleeves and support their teams when needed. 


Key Responsibilities: 

The Planning Craft & Capabilities 

  • Leads our planning practice community to do great work on a consistent basis across our client portfolio
  • Evolves the craft of planning, developing best practices/standards, evolving our philosophy, approaches, and processes
  • Leads teams to develop plans that deliver against the strategic vision and delivers performance and returns
  • Provides and contributes valuable thought leadership merchandisable to our clients and internal teams
  • Works with senior-level clients as needed to consult on addressing challenges and delivering solutions
  • Fosters close collaboration with comms strategy, strategic insights, investment, intelligence, and creative/content teams - leading to brave ideas and go-to-market strategies

Team Development 

  • Coaches, mentors, grows a team of media planning experts with a constant pursuit of excellence
  • Leads in the hiring process, employee evaluations/reviews, and talent development working with Client Leadership to map the talent to the right business assignment 
  • Actively provides direct feedback to team members to improve the quality of work they provide their clients and client teams 
  • Partners with Operations to evolve and implement curriculums for onboarding and ongoing training 
  • Instills a spirit of accountability ensuring timely development and execution of plans, campaigns, and projects from the teams

Business Development 

  • Growth-minded, partnering with Client Leadership to spot and act on organic growth opportunities
  • Is active in new business efforts for the agency, both in lead and supporting presentation roles related to new business outreach, response to RFPs, and pitches 
  • Actively participates in Empower’s agency marketing platforms, including creating case studies and authoring POVs and thought leadership pieces

Requirements

  • 15+ years media strategy/planning/buying experience  
  • Expert level knowledge of media fundamentals and best practices across channels
  • Current or past familiarity with adtech & martech platforms
  • Current or past familiarity with planning tools and systems
  • Willingness to travel 3-5 days on average per month (10-20%)
