Associate Director, Market Research

Empower is seeking to hire an Associate Director to join Empower’s Strategic Insights team. The primary responsibility of this role is to lead research and gather insights around consumer needs and trends to inform advertising/media planning and campaign initiatives. This Includes leading primary quantitative research studies and supplementing with secondary research, social listening and search data analyses. 

The right candidate must be very hands-on and have the ability to lead the research from beginning-to-end: designing the research proposal, managing vendors, analyzing the data and translating results into recommendations for how to improve the advertising/media plan based on key insights that apply to our clients’ larger business goals. This position is client-facing; therefore, the ability to easily explain methodologies, manage project communication and story-tell based on data will be paramount.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Lead market research projects from beginning-to-end: recommended approach, questionnaire design, research    implementation and analysis
  • Negotiate and scope quantitative and qualitative research with various research vendors
  • Support scoping of research SOWs
  • Manage timelines and deadlines for multiple projects
  • Train employees on market research processes and best practices
  • Present research approach and final output to clients
  • Support current clients as well as ad hoc analyses necessary to showcase our capabilities in new business pitches

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in related field (marketing, statistics, business administration)
  • Minimum 5 years of Market Research focused on custom primary research and/or advertising/media experience at this current level
  • Demonstrated experience designing consumer journey surveys and analyzing results to identify opportunities across media touchpoints
  • Academic and practical experience with a wide array of new product, brand, advertising and customer satisfaction research methodologies
  • Demonstrated experience managing panel provider partners from RFP to conclusion of surveying
  • Demonstrated experience working with cross-functional teams, providing consultation and expertise while managing needs across teams
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple research projects simultaneously, including budgets and timeline
  • Expertise in concisely visualizing and communicating data-driven analyses and findings to internal and external stakeholders
  • Exceptionally organized with ability to prioritize and focus on top tasks and work efficiently
  • Proven track record of being able to work independently and proactively engage with business stakeholders with minimal direction
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Solid understanding of traditional marketing principles

Required Skills:

  • Formal training in questionnaire development and quantitative analysis
  • Use of survey software tools such as Qualtrics
  • Analytical experience tying marketing efforts to business results
  • Experience with social listening tools such as Netbase, Google Trends, SEMRush
  • Experience with research companies such as MRI, Simmons, Nielsen, and Mintel
  • Experience with qualitative research methodologies such as focus groups, online research communities and bulletin boards
