EMPOWER EXPERIENCES BEST YEAR AND DOUBLES DOWN ON MEDIA TALENT
Cathy Shaffner Promoted to Chief Investment Officer and Rich Devine Joins as Head of Digital
CINCINNATI (December 18, 2019) – Reporting a 30 percent increase in revenue and more than 80 new hires, 2019 marks a monumental year in Empower’s 35-year history. With record-breaking growth comes an increased focus on leadership and talent. Today the company announced the promotion of Cathy Shaffner to Chief Investment Officer and the hire of Rich Devine as Vice President, Head of Digital.
“As our business continues to grow and our activation team expands to include half of the agency, we’ve reached an opportune moment for a more robust management structure, strong external leadership in our industry and more specialized representation at the agency leadership level,” said President and Chief Operating Officer, Rob FitzGerald. “Shaffner’s well-suited for the role of Chief Investment Officer with her strong negotiation chops, media savvy and tenure at Empower. And we couldn’t be more thrilled to have Devine’s west-coast perspective, digital strategy experience and future-forward thinking stretch across the agency,” said FitzGerald.
Shaffner’s Empower roots run 25 years deep. As Chief Investment Officer, Shaffner will lead all aspects of the negotiation and buying side of national and local media. This new role will involve strengthening external relationships with media partners, representing Empower’s buying expertise to key clients and working closely with Empower’s Business Unit Leads on ensuring client expectations are delivered. Leading an all-female cast of savvy media teams, Shaffner treats clients’ investments in media as carefully as she would her own. She is also a well-respected contributor to Empower’s new business efforts. Prior to this role, Shaffner led business for Empower’s retail clients, most recently for Ashley HomeStore and Meijer.
By way of Seattle, Utah, and Los Angeles, Rich Devine plants roots in Cincinnati. Devine will play a key role in thought leadership, external relations, and business development, as well as managing the Practice Leaders across all of Empower’s digital offerings. Prior to joining Empower, Devine led digital marketing on clients like Ford, Hulu, Amazon, Walmart and Gap Brands across agencies including Reprise Digital and WPP’s POSSIBLE unit. He has also spent time at Microsoft and Omniture.
